We’re the Carbis family. We are Luke, Talia, Baby & Pepper.

Why’s this blog called “The Climbing Tree?”:

Well, for a few reasons, actually.

There is an ‘actual’ climbing tree. It’s the Rodgers family climbing tree, that the four Rodgers siblings spent countless hours in. It grew, broke, twisted, and flourished with them. Then, in November 2006 Luke proposed to Talia under that very same climbing tree. In 2007, they got married under it.

It’s symbolic. Trees grow, they change with the seasons. When their branches break, they grown new ones, so they’re resilient. With climbing trees, it’s those broken branches that lead to the best new spots to climb in!

Vision For Our Family:

We want our family to…

  • Love God and follow his plan for our lives
  • Love each other, and tell each other regularly
  • Share (with each other, and with the world)
  • Learn and Teach
  • Play and have fun
  • Explore and Discover by ourselves, and with others
  • Be responsible, and take into consideration our impact on the world
  • Be passionate
  • Know how to look after ourselves. How to eat, and cook, and how things work
  • Be resilient

Vision For This Blog: As teachers, Luke and I know a thing or two about learning. In fact, being life long learners is something we’re really passionate about. Learning is such a miracle. The way the brain actually works to help us learn, remember, and process things is incredible, and we should never take for granted this great gift!

Our vision for this blog is that this will be a place for each member of our family (as it grows) to show what they’ve been learning. A place for our children (and ourselves) to show off creations, thoughts, inspirations, and achievements.

When thinking about what this space would look like, we realised the vast potential of the internet to share things, and learn from people in all sorts of walks of life. So we thought a blog would be a suitable place. We can also actively teach our children about internet safety from a very young age, and they can be in control of their online identities- something that is really important in today’s society.
